OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois needed a clinical genomics partner to help transform and extend their capabilities to effectively diagnose and treat critically ill infants with unexplained illnesses. Previously, clinicians were limited to only looking at the larger genetic picture, which meant that precise diagnoses for rare, genetic diseases could take weeks or months. As a full-service children’s hospital, and pioneers in children’s medicine, the hospital felt it was necessary to provide this level of care for pediatric patients and their families.
I think you can’t speak enough to the fact that within days we can have a diagnosis or rule out conditions. These are life and death situations we’re dealing with and having to wait days and days, and weeks for results is really difficult for these families.” — Jennifer Burton, MS, CGC, Clinical Genetic Counselor, OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois
Seeing the difference from telling patients that we can do tests that will take weeks and that you’re going to have to make decisions before we have answers… to now being able to say we can get answers within days is just amazing to families.” — Jennifer Burton, MS, CGC, Clinical Genetic Counselor, OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois
